There’s no shame in being scared in a world that moves so fast
Or in getting lost in memories, of times that have since passed
There’s no shame in feeling cold on a warm summer day
or in forgetting things as simple as the right word to say
There’s no shame in needing help in getting out of bed
or if you have to take a moment to write down what was said
There’s no shame in feeling lonely when you’ve lost your one and only
and no shame in feeling pain or for playing a lesser game
There’s no shame in needing help to get from a to b
or for a story twice repeated thanks to failing memory
There’s no shame in reaching out for a friendly helpful hand
Or in asking once again when you didn’t understand
There’s no shame when you’ve earned the extra time you need each day
For us to take just a moment to help you find your way
There’s no shame, only honor, because life is quite demanding
And you’ve made it oh so far, which is really quite outstanding

Reach out and be loving and compassionate to our elders,
…today and everyday.
