It's been quite a while since I completed a creative project.
When I started working on 'it's up to us...' in January I had a vision of what the piece would be. I had a musical idea and a concept.
My partner Anton has been embedded in the Reaper world (a stellar studio program we've been alpha testing) and he offered to reach out to this international community through the forum to get some submissions for the different languages/voices. I had my voices within 24 hours and started incorporating them into the music.
What came together from there seemed like magic. I asked a few artist friends if they wanted to be involved in the visual medium but the response was luke warm. It takes a lot of time and creative energy to produce a video, so that part I got. If I was going to get this thing out the door, I was going to have to do it myself. Having never produced a video before, I got on the net and started looking for what I needed. I happened upon Toufee and started to investigate through a free trial if this would work for me. Similar to the music production process, the momentum picked up so I knew I was on the right path. I figured it out and before long I had my visual accompaniment that met what my initial concept was. Plus, I had total creative control of my project.
What an amazing time for artists it is. There are really no restrictions. In just over a month I've managed to get my site up, my first piece produced and my message out, and that is just the framework now for where and how I communicate through my art. It's no longer about who can afford to chase the dream. The dream was always just about getting the sphere of influence widened so the message is heard. Anyone can do this - the medium is there, the tools are there and help is there from an amazing international community called the social network.
If everyone on this planet helped one other person in a meaningful way - our problems would be solved. We would have Utopia. If the answer exists, why haven't we accomplished this? Because most of us don't know how, don't give a damn, or think our governments should be doing something about it.
If you have a dream, pursue it. If you have something to contribute to the world that could make a small difference and push us towards a better future, you must stretch yourself to do so.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I took some time away from this world of music and creativity. That time has really served as an initialization for me. I am a wiser artist. I have recreated myself to fit into the visual and social networking world of today and as in all art, if it resonates with people, it will be known widely, if it doesn't - then the artist has not quite got it right yet. The entire process is the journey and that is full of wonder. I'm not concerned.
Thank you to Anton (my favorite engineer!), Reaper, Bandzoogle, Toufee and the social network, for giving me a platform to express myself in a meaningful and creative way.
