Stephen Harper is the first Prime Minister ever found in contempt of parliament, and he was the first to ever exercise his right to prorogue parliament the last time a vote was to be held in the house, that would have found him in contempt in parliament.
I am not a staunch Liberal or Conservative. At times I have voted for both parties. I don’t hate people who vote Conservative any more than I hate people who vote Liberal. What I do hate is this growing divide in Canada. On one side there are these people blindly supporting Harper because he has kept the economy comparably stable through one of the worst times for the worldwide economy. He was able to do that by maintaining a regulated system that was put in place by the Liberal government before him. In fact, the former liberal PM has been calling against a narrow nationalistic view of the financial markets beyond his post in office, in effect acting in the exact opposite direction our current PM is taking. Canada has lost its place of respect in the UN; we are no longer seen as an environmental steward but we CAN provide brand new fighter jets to the war machine pissing contests of the world. Hurray for us – O Canada.
But at what cost will Canada sit at the top of the economic ladder? Are we Canadians willing to go that far really? Are we willing to sell our agricultural land to China? To devastate old growth forests critical for clean air? Are we willing to turn our heads from seeing the environmental crimes being committed against indigenous communities? Are we so unwilling to lift our heads up and see this particular leader if given an unlikely majority could turn this into a country we don’t even recognise? THAT is in fact, what he WANTS.
The world’s oilmen love Harper, that is his chosen circle - big money and big oil. That is the stage Harper wants to stand on, that is where he seeks his standing ovation. Does that sound very Canadian to you?
This election I will vote Liberal. I’m voting liberal because any vote other than Liberal will support more Conservative seats in the legislature and that balloon needs the wind taken out of it.
O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
